The manager of a Birmingham restaurant responded to a diner who said their tapas was “overpriced” for “tiny portions”. The customer who visited Tapas Revolution Birmingham, in Grand Central, said they would rather eat a pie.
They took to Tripadvisor to claim the food was served in tiny portions and was “overpriced” for what it was. The reviewer, named as Zelda from the Nuneaton area, also urged others not to “waste your money on glass of weak sangria”.
Tapas Revolution Birmingham has a 5 rating on the popular travel website – with nearly 3,500 reviews. It was also awarded a Travellers’ Choice Award last year.
The restaurant regularly receives rave reviews from customers – including one only days ago saying it had “fantastic service and authentic food”. Others heaped praise on the restaurant’s staff.
But Zelda shared her negative thoughts from her visit in January this year in a short review on Tripadvisor. She said: “Over priced for what you get tiny portions.
“Don’t waste your money glass of weak “sangria“ £5.95. Rather have a pie much better and tastier.”
But the general manager at Tapas Revolution Birmingham decided to respond to the negative criticism – saying “the prices in the city centre are what they are I am afraid.”. And in their clever response they also added “really sure we are not a place which could and would deliver your expectations”.
Their full response said: “Dear Zelda. Thank you for your time to write this comment.
“The prices in the city centre are what they are I am afraid. The coffee cost you £2.50 to £3.50 in self service shops and £5.95 in full service restaurant environment for an alcoholic drink or a cocktail is pretty cheap to be honest.
“But if you prefer a pie, then I am really sure we are not a place which could and would deliver your expectations. Thank you once again and have a lovely day.”
Tapas Revolution Birmingham has 3,496 reviews on Tripadvisor – with more than 2,650 of them branded as “excellent”. Earlier this month, Susannah said: “A little gem in a train station. The food here is always fantastic, and easily matches the tapas you find in Barcelona.
“Staff are incredibly friendly and are always helpful and enthusiastic when I try to practice my Spanish! An absolute must when visiting Birmingham.”
Another customer said: “All the staff were very friendly and catered well for my allergy. Food was also very nice and great value for money!”
And Dawn said after her visit in March: “We had a lovely lunch served by Katerina. She took her time to explain the dishes, and to help us choose.
“She was polite and friendly and didn’t rush us. She went above and beyond!! The food was served hot and tasted amazing.”
