One of the transfer options Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has this summer is a move for Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia.
The Mirror reported earlier in May that Ten Hag is considering a £20 million move for the defender.
Tyrell Malacia showed why United are reportedly keen on a move with an impressive performance for Feyenoord in the Europa Conference League final agains Roma.
Feyenoord were defeated 1-0 by Jose Mourinho’s side despite dominating the second half, with Malacia impressive.
Tyrell Malacia shows why Ten Hag wants him
Tyrell Malacia showed why he is so highly rated with a strong performance at both ends of the pitch in a tightly contested final with Roma.
Malacia was a constant threat and open outlet in the final third, linking up well with winger Luis Sinsiterra, and causing problems for Roma’s defence, without over committing himself.
He likes to put crosses in, mixing up his deliveries with low drilled balls into the centre, to cause a scramble in the Roma defence.
Malacia created two chances, while completed 41 of 43 passes, a 95 per cent success rate, also making one successful dribble.
At the back Malacia dealt with everything which was asked of him well; Roma’s winning goal came down the right side.
The 22-year-old is eager to tackle but does not dive in, using his judgement well. He won all four tackles he competed for.
Malacia also made one clearance, and three ball recoveries, winning two free-kicks and only giving one away. He won seven out of 10 ground duels he competed for, making 79 touches in total.
He played 89 minutes before Feyenoord made a late tactical switch to throw on an extra attacker, but it was in vain.
Jose Mourinho’s side held on for a 1-0 win despite managing only 33 per cent possession.
If United do end up entering the market for another left-back, it makes a lot of sense to be interested in Malacia, who appears a bright talent, who would be a snip at £20 million.
