In pictures: the best and worst places to live in the West Midlands

These are the best and worse areas across Birmingham, Worcestershire and the Black Country to buy a house this year

With thousands of people searching for their dream home, property finding company Garrington has carried out a study which ranks over 1,300 UK towns to find the best areas to buy a house. The survey ranks the 1,372 areas across the country based on four criteria: natural beauty, architectural beauty, quality of life and how green it is. It also shows the average house price in each of the towns.

In the West Midlands, the Worcestershire market town of Pershore topped the list with a rank of 22, being rated highly for its greenness and architectural beauty. Other victors include several Black Country towns which moved up the list by several hundred places compared to last year while areas such as Solihull and Sutton Coldfield continued to rank lowly.

Here are the main towns across Birmingham, the Black Country and Worcestershire ranked from best to worst.
