GAINESVILLE, FLA. – Rutger’s gymnastics started its 2022 road season at No. 2 in Florida Friday night. The quad event featured UF, Northern Illinois and Texas Woman’s.
The Scarlet Knights opened the tournament on the floor as a fifth-year senior Beautiful Huang led the event with a 9,900. Sophomore Emily Leese kept momentum going with a third place jump, with a score of 9,825. Junior Hannah Joyner and other students Calah Newman competed all-around for the team, while a total of three freshmen appeared in their first collegiate rally for the Rutgers.
Leese recorded a grade of 9,825 on volts, just shy of her career-best at 9,850 in the tournament. She placed third in the event, the first top three spot on jumps in her career.
Huang began his extra year with eligibility and started the evening strong with 9,900 on the floor. She has darkened 9.9 in the competition seven times in her career and owned a career high of 9.925.
Freshmen Isabella Hughes, Maya Jonesand Anna Pagliaro all made their collegiate debut in the convention. Among the recurring, sophomore Emily Leese made his collegiate debut on the beam and floor for RUC. Sophomore transfer made her Scarlet Knight debut, competing on beam.
