Armed police called to city hotel after staff member stabbed and woman injured


Armed police were called to a hotel chain after a member of staff was stabbed and a woman injured. Disorder broke out at the hotel off Hagley Road in Edgbaston on Tuesday (May 3).

Officers found a male worker who had been knifed in the back. The victim was treated on the scene before he was taken to hospital. The second patient suffered a minor hand injury before being discharged by paramedics.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the hotel on suspicion of assault and remains in custody. A weapon was also retrieved and is being forensically examined.

A spokeswoman from West Midlands Police said: “We were called to a disorder at a hotel in Hagley Road, Birmingham, at around 11.30am today (Tuesday). Armed officers attended and found a member of staff had suffered a stab wound to his back.

“He was treated by paramedics before being taken to hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. Officers arrested a 27-year-old man at the hotel on suspicion of assault. A weapon was also retrieved and is being forensically examined.

“No one else reported any injuries to us. The 27-year-old remains in custody this evening as investigations continue.”

A West Midlands Ambulanc e spokeswoman said: “We were called by the police at 10.50am to reports of a stabbing on Hagley Road, Edgbaston. An ambulance, paramedic officer and the West Midlands CARE team attended.

“Crews assessed one man with a non-life threatening injury. He was given treatment on scene before being conveyed to hospital further checks. A second patient, a woman, was given treatment on scene for a minor injury before being discharged on scene.”
